Pete's List

Martin MA550 Authentic Acoustic Superior Performance 92/8 Phosphor Bronze Guitar Strings - .013-.056 Medium

Martin SP mediums have always been my go-to for my acoustic guitar.  I literally only played using these strings for years.  For my ears, they have great tone and a good lifespan yet aren’t so expensive that you put off changing them when you really should.  AND, they are very durable and I rarely break them unlike previous brands I used.

Strymon Iridium Amp & IR Cab Pedal (Electric guitar Amp simulator)

Since I like running light on the road but still want the ability to play my Telecaster and have it sound good, I added one of these Strymon Iridium Amp simulators to my pedal board a couple years ago.  That way I’m not loading even a moderately heavy amp in and out to my shows anymore.  AND I’m not sacrificing much for tone and customization for the sounds I want.

Bose L1 Pro32 Portable PA System with Sub2 Bass Module (PA system)

I’ve play through a Bose system for years and I’ll never go back to a conventional PA system.  Simply put, Bose makes high quality stuff.  If you are a solo act or even a full band who plays small to medium size venues, I think these Bose systems simply have no equal.  I was tired of years of loading in speakers, speaker stands, amps, running cables to both sides of my setup etc.  Now I have everything I need in one small, tidy footprint.  But don’t be skeptical about their headroom because of their size.  These things can melt faces if need be.

Zoom V6-SP Vocal Effects Processor Pedal

As a solo act I’m always looking to add something new to my shows.  Adding something new to your sound can also really be refreshing not only for you, but the audience as well.  I’ve been using various vocal harmony pedals for years and it really can thicken out the sound for a solo performer; the Zoom V6-SP is the next one on my list.

Zoom Q2n-4K Handy Video Recorder with XY Microphone

There are all kinds of audio/video recording equipment available for musicians today but I think the Zoom products are the top of the line at their price point.  I have a Zoom H6 I bought a few years back for jotting capturing song ideas as well a to make high quality live recordings. However, this new Q2n-4K takes it to the next level by not only capturing the high quality audio, but now you can also capture hi-res videos in 4K as well!

Shure SM7B Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone

I've had this microphone for about 5 years now and it's never let me down. If you watch any videos of me in my home studio, you'll see this baby front and center. It's probably my favorite piece of equipment that I own. Sweetwater usally has it available in some great bundles, too!

dbx 286s Channel Strip with De-esser

If you're looking for a solid processor without breaking the bank, I highly recommend the 286s for any broadcast/podcasting/recording needs. It's what I use in my own home studio and really love this thing.

Rode Rodecaster Pro II Podcast Production Console

Y'all, this has been on my wishlist for a while! Rodecaster's are a great way to simplify home studio setups as it "blends everything you need for podcasting, streaming, and studio recording into a single, streamlined production console." I've only heard great things about them, and in the interview with our friend TBay from Episode 105, he puts the Rodecaster to work and I got to experience some of it's greatness firsthand. Definitely pulling the trigger soon!

Sennheiser HD 280 Pro Closed-Back Studio and Live Monitoring Headphones

I'm sure you can imagine that I've had SEVERAL pairs of headphones in my life. Different sets have different purposes, but the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro are my go-to for audio editing and interviews. When I was first building my studio, I didn't have a large budget for monitors, so I decided to go with these. I've had them for 5 years (still going strong) and have literally worn them for HOURS at a time. They're by far the most comfortable and quality headphones I've owned, and the price tag ain't too bad either.

Zoom Q2n-4K Handy Video Recorder with XY Microphone Ring Light and SD Card Bundle

I know I'm kind of piggy-backing off of Pete on this one, but what good is video without great lighting?? I swear by ring lights and this is a great bundle that brings together both of our pics, plus throws in the SD card, too!
